4 UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS WHO CAN MAKE THE JETS 53-MAN ROSTER

The New York Jets had one of the best draft classes landing several players that can make an impact from day one in the NFL. While the Jets had one of the most impressive draft classes, their undrafted free-agent class may rival it. The Jets landed several players who will have an opportunity to make the team's 53-man roster and potentially make an impact on the 2024 season.

4. Tre Jenkins - Safety - San Jose State

Robert Saleh has shown that he loves a player who can be a hybrid linebacker or safety in his defense. The Jets are getting just that in San Jose State safety Tre Jenkins who's played both over 59 games. In 2023, Jenkins recorded 67 tackles with a pair of interceptions.

While undersized, Jenkins has shown an ability to play at a high level throughout his career. In Jenkins, the Jets are getting a true chess piece on defense as he can play both positions while being a beneficial player in passing situations. If Jenkins makes the team, Robert Saleh can deploy him as a weapon in sub-packages making the defense even more dangerous.

3. Braiden McGregor - Edge Rusher - Michigan

While McGregor was seemingly the only Michigan Wolverine to go undrafted, McGregor was certainly sought after. It's being reported that the Jets had to outbid several teams for McGregor as he was one of the top edge rushers available after the draft.

In 2023, McGregor recorded 4.5 sacks as a rotational piece in a crowded defensive line room at Michigan. The Jets have a roster spot seemingly open at edge rusher after dealing John Franklin-Myers to the Broncos in a salary cap-saving move. All signs point towards McGregor making the 53-man roster. All he'll need to do is perform in training camp.

2. Tyler Harrell - Wide Receiver - Miami

As a recruit coming out of high school, Harrell was hardly sought after making a name for himself at Louisville. Harrell would make pit stops in Alabama and Miami before making it to the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent.

After showing a ton of promise in his second season at Louisville, with 523 yards and six touchdowns, Harrell managed just six catches for 63 yards between Alabama and Louisville. After two years, of lackluster production, you're likely asking why the Jets signed Harrell and why he has a chance to make the roster. The answer is speed as Harrell ran a 4.28 forty-yard dash and has shown an ability to stretch the field.

While the Jets receiving core is seemingly set with Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, and Malachi Corley, Harrell can make an impact. The Jets can deploy Harrell as a deep threat while using Corley as a gadget player on jet sweeps and screen passes. If Harrell can prove himself in camp he'll have a legitimate chance to make the Jets.

1. Leonard Taylor - Defensive Tackle - Miami

One of the bigger shocks of this year's NFL Draft was Miami defensive tackle Leonard Taylor going undrafted as many touted Taylor as an early day three pick while he had early first-round buzz coming into the draft. Taylor has recorded six sacks over his three seasons at Miami, adding 65 tackles and an interception. As a player coming out of high school, Leonard Taylor III was a unanimous five-star recruit.

For the past few years, the Jets have spent a pretty significant amount of money on defensive tackles that can play alongside Quinnen Williams doing some damage to the team's salary cap. The Jets could certainly use a cheaper option alongside Williams as it would allow the team to allocate money elsewhere. If Taylor can show the strength and dominance he showed in his first two seasons at Miami, he can certainly find his way onto the Jets roster in Week 1.
