BENGALS, JOE BURROW SITUATION PREDICTED TO GET 'UGLY' BY NFL EXEC

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made some eyebrow-raising comments in the week leading up the Bengals’ matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, and everyone took notice.

It wasn’t that Burrow was taking shots at the Bengals organization nor asking to be dealt; he essentially said that he just wasn’t having fun playing football anymore.

The question is, is this a Burrow thing? Or does it have everything to do with his situation in Cincinnati?

An NFL executive seems to believe it’s the latter, telling Mike Sando of The Athletic that he doesn’t think Burrow is going to pull an Andrew Luck and simply walk away from the game.

“Burrow doesn’t strike me as Luck, where he is going to disappear and go bird watching or serve on a board if he does not play football,” the exec said. “That said, Burrow’s comments definitely caught my attention. That is an organization I trust the least to figure it out.”

The executive then added that he expects things to get ugly between Burrow and the Bengals.

“(Owner) Mike Brown is not letting Joe Burrow walk out the door,” the exec said. “That is what makes Burrow’s comments so interesting. How ugly does this get? Because this is the one franchise that doesn’t care at all about it looking ugly, especially after getting their stadium deal.”

Burrow signed a five-year, $275 million extension with Cincinnati back in September 2023, a deal that runs through 2029. Since inking that pact, Burrow has played in a grand total of 32 games, so health has certainly be an issue for the former No. 1 overall pick.

Perhaps that’s the reason for Burrow’s sudden malaise? Or are there deeper issues under the surface?

The 29-year-old put forth a nightmarish performance against the Ravens on Sunday, going 25-for-39 with 225 yards and a couple of interceptions. He has now thrown four picks in the last two weeks.

In five games this season overall, Burrow has thrown for 959 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his passes and posting an 84.3 passer rating.
