WHAT THE COWBOYS REPORTEDLY THINK ABOUT EZEKIEL ELLIOTT

The Dallas Cowboys released longtime starting running back Ezekiel Elliott after a down year that also saw Tony Pollard emerge as a top back for them. But have the Cowboys slammed the door shut on a potential reunion?

The answer appears to be no. Appearing on SportsCenter today, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler reported that the Cowboys are open to a "potential reunion."

Per the report, the Cowboys would be open to talking to Elliott again if he were interested in doing so. But right now the market for Elliott isn't such that the Cowboys or anyone would rush to bring him to the table.

"I was told that Dallas has not shut the door on a potential reunion. They would be open to talks if Ezekiel Elliott wanted to circle back with them and come back to Dallas. I'm told that Elliott has loved his time in Dallas, so certainly something that I wouldn't take off the table. But Elliott is sort of weighing his options and there's been some interest. It's pretty much a waiting game because the running back market has slowed a little bit. Teams aren't overly eager to spend on veterans in early June at that kind of position, so he could wait this out and see what else is out there. The Bucs at one time were looking for some help there, we'll see if they circle back," Fowler said, via Bleacher Report.

Elliott averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2022 but still led the Cowboys in rushing touchdowns. If the Cowboys were to bring him back, he would likely be joining as a third-down or goal line back with Pollard receiving the bulk of all touches.

Is there any chance that Ezekiel Elliott returns to the Dallas Cowboys this season?
