THE ATHLETIC RELEASES ITS POST-SPRING COLLEGE FOOTBALL TOP 10

On Tuesday afternoon the Athletic released its list of the top 25 college football programs heading into the 2024 season.

Unsurprisingly a loaded Ohio State Buckeyes team sits at No. 1 in the rankings. Head coach Ryan Day and company have elite players returning at just about every position on the field.

Meanwhile, Alabama, after losing legendary head coach Nick Saban, failed to crack the top five. Instead, the Crimson Tide sit at No. 7 in the nation after a College Football Playoff appearance last season.

Perhaps the most intriguing team are the Texas Longhorns, who come it at No. 4 on the list. After a College Football Playoff appearance in 2023, the Longhorns have the chance to be "back."

"Being 'back' isn't just about one Playoff run. Being back is about having sustainable success, and @TexasFootball has a chance to do that with one of the nation's most talented rosters," Ari Wasserman of the Athletic wrote.

SEC power Georgia remains high on the list, only sitting behind the Buckeyes.

Here's the full top 10:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Georgia
  3. Oregon
  4. Texas
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Ole Miss
  7. Alabama
  8. Missouri
  9. Michigan
  10. Miami

The Wolverines come in at No. 9 after losing a bevy of players and head coach Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. Can new head coach Sherrone Moore lead the Wolverines back to the playoff?
